Entry from: Plettenberg Bay, South Africa Entry Title: "Garden Route" Entry: "April 8, 2008 Plettenberg Bay, ZA As we leave Riversdale we make sure to pass through Albertina where the aloe factories are located. The aloe product shops are open and Irina finds some interesting ointments and soaps that will make us look and feel 20 years younger. We drive east from Albertina across the entire "Garden Route" to Plettenberg. According to the Lonely Planet guidebook Plettenbergbaii is at the east end of the Garden Route. We decided we'd come straight here and work our way back to Cape Town. We got a room at the Abalone Guest House, on the beach, east of Plettenbergbaii near the town of Keurboomstrand. We came here because the little free tourist information booklet, Coast to Coast, said the Abalone Beach House was on a clothing optional beach. We thought that would be interesting to see, so we were willing to pay the 350 rand per night. The place is owned by Grant and Elbe. Elbe said sure the beach was clothing optional and no one objects. But Grant told us the true story. Seems the sales people of "Coast to Coast" came out to sell them ad space in the publication and they told the people from Coast to Coast how deserted the beach was. They innocently said that on one afternoon they decided to just go free ...
